D-Day Commemorative Coin
Preparations for the invasion began almost the day the British Army evacuated Dunkirk in 1940. When America joined the war, a date for the invasion was optimistically set for 1942. When reality set in, the date was moved to 1943...then 1944. The final timetable called for a landing on the Normandy coast on June 5 when tide, weather, and moonlight would be most favorable. On June 5, the largest amphibious force ever assembled left its English ports for the French coast. The weather did not cooperate and storms forced General Eisenhower to delay the effort for one day.Limitation: 9,999 complete editionsMaterial: Copper nickelWeight: 32 gramsIssue year: 2001Diameter: 40 mm (Approx. 1.6 in.)Quality: ProofObverse: D-Day June 6, 1944Reverse: US flag with 48 starsCustomer can only order up to 5 pcs.
Standing Liberty Quarter
The year was 1916. World War I was raging in Europe, and the political climate in the United States was definitely guarded. It was the perfect opportunity to issue a coin that, as a contemporary government report would put it, "was intended to typify in a measure the awakening interest of the country to its own protection"The Standing Liberty quarters were minted from 1916 to 1930 in 90% silver. There are two major design varieties of these elusive quarters. Type one was issued for only two years, as there was quite an uproar about Miss Liberty´s "bare breast". In 1917, it was replaced byType two in which the design was modified, covering the breast. On both, Liberty´s left arm is raised to display a sheild signifying protection and her right hand bears the Olive Branch of peace. Designed by Hermon A. McNeil, these exceptionally scarce coins are minted in 90% silver. Many were melted down during the great surge of 1980 when the price of silver hit 50$ per ounce. We have a small hoard of circulated, mixed date coins left from a collection, so hurry...they won´t last long!Limitation: unknownMaterial: .900 silverWeight: 6.25 gramsIssue year: 1916-1930Diameter: 24.3 mm (Approx. 0.9 in.)Quality: CirculatedCountry: USAFace value: $.25Up to 5 items per customer
